Sunday Feb 10, 2008 at Workplay

BATA will hold it's fifth annual Gala on Sunday Feb 10, 2008 at Workplay from 3PM - 6PM.  WorkPlay is located at 500 23rd Street South.  Admission includes the entertainment, awards presentation, and a delightful buffet of hors d'oeuvres after the show.  There will be a cash bar.

These awards will be presented:

  • The BATA Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Mr. Harold Hunt.  Mr. Hunt has a long history of contributing to Birmingham theatre, having been teacher, director, actor, and department chair at Samford University for over 30 years before his retirement.

  • The BATA 2008 "Outstanding Service to the Theatre Community" will be presented to Patty McDonald for her patronage and support of theatre.

  • The BATA "2008 Standing Ovation Award" will be presented to Rebecca Jennings for her many years of service to secondary education in Birmingham.

  • The BATA 2008 "Bravo! Award" will be presented to Boots Carroll, Georgene Gainey, and Virginia Mae Schmitt, who started performing with Town and Gown Theatre in the late 1940s and are still active in theatre today.

Performances:

There will be a series of short scenes performed by many area companies and schools, including 

“A Raisin in the Sun,” Altamont

“Shadowlands,” Park Players

“Odd Couple,” Female Version, Leeds  Arts Council

"Dog Sees God: Confessions of A Teenage Blockhead," Theatre Downtown

“Elegies,” Birmingham Festival Theatre

Judith Viorst Poems, The Seasoned Performers

“The Pink Panther Strikes Again,” South City

Door Prizes will include:
