PM
Written By Emily Bronte. Adapted & Directed By Kenny Morris.
Theatre Downtown presents Wuthering Heights, a play
adaptation by Kenny Morris based on the classic novel by Emily
Brontë. Reintroduced to a new generation of readers as “Bella
and Edward’s favorite novel” in Stephenie Meyer’s popular
“Twilight” series, “Wuthering Heights” is perhaps the most
haunting and tormented love story ever written. A novel that
has been called “The most passionately original novel of the
English language” has proven to be one of the Nineteenth
Century’s most popular yet disturbing masterpieces. The
windswept moors are the unforgettable setting of this tale of
doomed love between the troubled orphan Heathcliff and Catherine
Earnshaw. Through Catherine’s betrayal of Heathcliff and his
bitter vengeance, their mythic passion haunts the next
generation even after their deaths. Incorporating elements of
many genres – from gothic novels and ghost stories to poetic
allegory -- and transcending them all, “Wuthering Heights” is a
mystifying and powerful tour de force.

Laughter on the 23rd Floor
-
South City Theatre
- 109 Cloverdale Drive, Alabaster
June 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 at 8:00 PM,
June 5, 12 at 2:00 PM
Directed by Dianne
Daniels
Another gem from perennial favorite Neil Simon, Laughter on the
23rd Floor was inspired by Simon's early career experience as a
junior jokesmith for Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows, where
Simon worked with an all-star writing team, which included Sid
Caesar, Larry Gelbart, Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks, Selma Diamond
and Woody Allen. The play focuses on Max Prince, the star of a
weekly comedy-variety show circa 1953, and his staff, including
Simon's alter-ego Lucas Brickman, who maintains a running
commentary on the writing, fighting, and wacky antics which take
place in the writers' room. At the plot's core is Max's ongoing
battles with televisions executives who fear his humor is too
sophisticated for 1950’s middle America. (Includes mature
language)

July 24, 31 at 2:00 PM
Directed by Billy Ray
Brewton
Most men would dream of playing Hamlet -- it's the role of a
lifetime, right? And, for some, it's the role of an
after-lifetime. Andrew Rally is a successful New York actor
living in the former gothic residence of the legendary actor
John Barrymore. As Andrew struggles with taking on The Bard's
most famous role, he is hindered by a girlfriend with a
death-like grip on her chastity and aided by the inebriated
ghost of the apartment's former tenant, Mr. John Barrymore. Will
Andrew make it through the most challenging role he has ever
known? Will he stay in such a unusual and unexpected residence?
Will John Barrymore be able to stay sober long enough to help
him make any decision whatsoever? I Hate Hamlet is a hysterical,
laugh-a-minute rollercoaster ride through love, life...and what
comes after.

Red, White, & Tuna
-
Terrific New Theatre -
2821 2nd Ave. South
July 17 - August 6, Thursday -
Saturdays at 8:00 PM
Directed by Carl Stewart
It’s been several years since we left Bertha and Arles dancing
at the end of A Tuna Christmas. Did the romance blossom? Has
Didi Snavley received any "cosmic" communications from R.R.'s
UFO? Did Stanley make his fortune in the Albuquerque taxidermy
business?
These and other burning questions will be asked and answered in
the side-splitting spoof of life in rural America.
A sequel to one of TNT’s biggest hits, this irreverent satire
guarantees a gut-busting good time.
Tickets are $20. Thursday nights are "pay what you can
afford" (TADA) with the exception of opening night since a
wine and cheese party is offered. For
